 Here’s
something that you probably do know
about home-based businesses. Multitudes of people on
the Internet are trying to sell you get-rich-quick schemes.
And the old sayings, “If it sounds too good to
be true, it isn’t,” and “Caveat Emptor”
(“Buyer Beware”) are good ones to keep in
mind if someone is telling you that you can become wealthy
with no effort. If it was so simple, every day would
be a worldwide party because everyone would be rich.
Obviously, that isn’t going to happen, and anyone
who tells you that you can make a fortune overnight
is insulting your intelligence.

responded to these “blue sky” types of ads or e-mails in the past and
been disappointed with the results, it’s understandable if you feel wary
about a home-based business. But genuine, profitable businesses that
you can run without leaving the comfort of your own home really do exist, and you can make a decent income without stealing other people’s money on false pretenses.
We’re entering a
new age where fortunes will be made because of the head-over-heels
growth of computer ownership and online capability for nearly a billion
and a half of the world’s population.This situation offers huge
potential for creating wealth. In a June, 1999, article in The Atlantic
Monthly magazine, Lester Thurow, an MIT professor of management and
economics, said “new technological opportunities are creating fortunes
faster than ever before.” The truth of his statement can be seen today, a
decade later, in the millions of home businesses that are flourishing.
In fact, the National Association for the Self-Employed estimates that
over half of US small businesses are now home-based.
Entrepreneurs
keep a capitalistic nation “in business,” so to speak. Henry Ford not
only developed an automobile. He also figured out a system to
manufacture them quickly and efficiently and put people to work, and
other automakers quickly adopted his ideas. For decades, people who
worked for one of the “Big Three” counted their blessings – decent union
wages and benefits and enviable retirement plans. But classic corporate
jobs like these belong to a disappearing era. What we are witnessing
now, in job losses and bankrupt companies, is the deterioration of an
old system.
Today’s
entrepreneurs are a different breed, and they are looking in a different
direction for their success. They’re looking outward, at a global
market, and they’re looking inward and realizing that they want to
escape a system that no longer delivers – that they want to create their
own destinies and be responsible for their own futures.

and then working in the automotive industry as a Project
Coordinator. When she became pregnant with our second
child, we made the decision for her to stay home with
our daughter. We were always worried about paying the
bills just barely making ends meet. I worked in construction
installing windows hating every minute of it for 12
years.
Finally enough was enough. There had to be a better
